Helper is a former mining and railroad town located
in the high desert of Utah, just 2 hours southeast of Salt Lake City.
Its colorful history, great landscapes and cityscapes make it an ideal
place to hold a Plein Air competition. The surrounding landscape
consists of high bluffs, desert, farmland, canyons, old railroad and
mining architecture. Helper’s small town character comes through clearly
in its historic buildings. It has become a Mecca for artists and craftspeople
alike.
The 10th annual Helper Arts Festival will be held in historic downtown
Helper Utah. The festival is slated for August 20-22, 2004 and will
feature a Plein Air competition, a Literary competition, Youth Art
competition and show, working Children’s Art Yard, Chalk Walk, 4-K
run, and much more. The Festival features performing arts stages with
a wide rage of venues, including country, jazz, pop, bluegrass and
much more. The Festival also has great food, fun and activities for
the whole family. It is free to the public with attendance averaging
over 5000. Artists who would like to sell original artwork are
encouraged to contact us about a booth space, which is only $35 for
a 10x10 space.
