John
Hughes feels simplification makes a more powerful statement than heaping
more and more unnecessary detail onto a painting. "I think it is more
effective to say a lot with less than to diminish a work with more."
John Hughes paints
the Utah landscape both on location and in the studio. His love for
working outdoors on field studies is his reference for larger studio
pieces. Field excursions are the essence of John's studio work and his
inspiration to "stay honest" to the way light affects the landscape.
John's paintings
have been exhibited in many local and national shows. He was featured
five times in the top 100 at the "Arts
for the Parks" competition in Jackson Hole, Wyoming, and twice
in the Oil Painters of America National Show.
